About Me
I love the way light plays on the surface of glass and sparkles and shines throughout. Even as a young child I was endlessly fascinated by beautiful glass. Years later I discovered blown and flamework glass as an art form. Collecting what I could afford and admiring what I couldn't.
I started the journey to the wondrous addiction to the flame and the glass with the small step of making beaded jewelry for friends and family as gifts, buying and collecting handmade flamework glass beads to use in my creations. In my search for more and varied colors and shapes, I learned the basic steps to making glass beads - so I would know quality artisan beads from mass produced ones. The next step was to take a class for safety’s sake, and set up my own glass studio.
I work in my home-based studio in the Algiers Point neighborhood of New Orleans. I use imported Italian glass rods to form complex, multi-layered, colorful beads and funky, whimsical sculptural beads on stainless steel rods. The beads are formed in the flame of a propane/oxygen torch and immediately put into a digitally controlled kiln for annealing. They are then diamond cleaned and fully inspected before being made into beautiful wearable jewelry, for the body and the home. My favorite materials to use with the glass are fine silver and Swarovski crystals. I also sell loose beads to designers to make their own wonderful creations or for me to make custom jewelry for them.
I teach Flamework Glass Beadmaking at the New Orleans Creative Glass Institute (NOCGI) in MidCity at 3924b Conti St, New Orleans, LA 70119. I delight in seeing my students develop the skills to make beautiful flamework glassbeads. Flameworking is a constant learning process. I leave a class feeling like I learned as much as I taught.
A glass bead is a thing of sparkling beauty. I am thrilled to be able to share these beauties with the world.
You can meet me and see my work the last Saturday of every month at the
Art
Market of New Orleans presented by the Arts Council of New Orleans
in Palmer Park, corner of South Carrollton and South Claiborne.
